Conversations and Ecologicool

CONVERSATIONS, acrylic and mixed media paintings by Ingrid Thomas, 21 September to 9 November, 2024.  “My work has evolved away from the representational through to the mostly abstract. I like to start my art works with no set plan in mind, creating marks. It becomes an exciting adventure to see where each painting will lead me. It becomes a dialogue, a type of conversation between the work and myself. I let my subconscious take the lead, then I respond to the painting. I try to control things then let go. Some works are very spontaneous while others let me see something in them. I like to work with that, giving the viewer an inkling of it without giving too much away, so that each person can take away what they like.”

ECOLOGICOOL, oil paintings and prints by Liz Millsom, 21 September to 9 November, 2024.   “Australia has long had one of the highest rates of animal extinctions in the world (the highest for mammals). Ecologicool presents a narrative between native and introduced species that cause an imbalance to the ecosystems. The dingo is dominant in my work as it’s the top terrestrial predator and is considered critically endangered due to threats such as habitat loss, hybridization, baiting, trapping and shooting. My work explores this with a selection of oil paintings and mixed media drypoint prints inspired by Australia’s unique native species juxtaposed with introduced, industrialized species. I intend to make people aware of Australia’s key species vital to maintaining balance in diverse ecosystems and allowing native species to thrive.”
