21 May to 16 July, 2022
Longford resident, Linda Shaw, is a prolific artist, her intriguing paintings currently fill all spaces at WAS Gallery, Warragul. A Search for Stillness, her first solo exhibition, runs until 16 July and is the culmination of a years work undertaken throughout 2021. One of those Covid complicated years that Linda used productively and creatively.
The approach Linda takes with her artwork is unique, “My abstract, intuitive landscapes are not based on, or seeking to represent, any one particular place”. She explains, “Rather, the intention is to evoke a sense of place that is both universal and personal. I hope the viewer can experience a sense of place that is familiar yet unfamiliar; a visual echo of a memory not quite crystallised.” For many years Linda taught Art and English at Sale College, as well as Graphic Design and Web Design at East Gippsland TAFE. While she has shared her skills and enthusiasm for art with many East Gippsland students, her teaching is matched by her own curiosity and desire to always continue learning.
Linda’s work and exhibition have been fully supported by her family with husband, David, framing most of her pieces. Her daughter, Mawrgan, made a heart felt speech and opened the show on 21 May. Mawrgan and, Canadian fiance, Jake recently returned from Toronto after five years away with no visits to Australia in the last two Covid years. Linda will be at WAS Gallery on Saturday, 11 June and 9 July from 11am to 3pm, at 37 Latrobe Street, Warragul. Gallery hours: Wednesday to Saturday, 10am – 4pm.
